It seems crazy - it was just yesterday you were running around the playground trying to climb the monkey bars and today you’re planning your wedding. When did life become so serious? Planning a wedding can be very emotional and as a wedding planner, I have seen just how emotional it can get.
You never thought the day would come so soon but it has and now here’s a helping handle on how to deal with your emotions.
Remember planning a wedding is not the end of the world - actually it’s just the beginning! It’s the beginning of a new journey that you should embrace. This feeling of “I’m getting married” is not going to last forever, so savour each and every moment of it. Trust me, you’ll miss it before you know it.
The wedding planning isn’t going to be around forever. Time flies, especially when you’re planning the wedding of your dreams. You won’t even realize when it’s all over and when it is, you wish you could do it ALL over again (but let’s hope you don’t!). Enjoy the planning process - with the right help, it can actually be fun!
As a wedding planner, I know how tough it can get. It can become overwhelming. Sometimes it’s just a little too much too handle. Every once in a while, you need to step away, take a breather, and just relax. There’s no better way to do that then a spa day or gym day. You would be surprised on how good it feels to work off all the steam and stress. But really, all you need to do is do something that you enjoy. Maybe that’s painting, or taking a jog, or maybe just sitting at home watching reruns of Friends. Whatever it is, take a break.
Between the parents, the planners, the fiancé and friends, sometimes you forget that your wedding is about bringing the two of you TOGETHER. You go through so many meetings, meeting tons of new people, and the last thing you want to do is go home and fight with your fiancé about leaving the food out on the counter. I encourage you (emphasize on ENCOURAGE) spend some time TOGETHER. In the midst of wedding planning, we sometimes forget the real purpose behind it. Indulge in time together, go away for a weekend and remind yourselves how much you love each other.
My last piece of advice on how to deal with wedding emotions is to take it for what it is. While wedding planning, we want everything to be JUST PERFECT. And why wouldn’t you? You’re spending hard earned money on all those beautiful things to make your dream wedding a reality but the last thing you want to do is over analyze. Stick with your gut, it’s usually never wrong. Go with your instinct instead of trying to rationalize and over think it all.
The wedding will come and go before you know it. Enjoy the process while it lasts!
